To Be - "Trends"

PROJECT TYPE

Poster and Magazine Design

DELIVERABLES

Poster, Magazine

SOFTWARE

Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop

The fantastic opportunity that inspired this zine and poster was to design for good. To design for people. The objective was to design a poster and magazine to affect audiences and improve people's lifestyles. The theme that "Trends" focuses on is the idea of the "perfect body" that many women look up to. The goal of this zine is to spread awareness to young women who are going through eating disorders or self-esteem issues. It's to inform them they are not alone. The goal is to give them a sense of security.

The color palette used includes two colors, both purple and pink. This catches the target audience's attention and gives them a sense of an embrace. It provides the audience with familiarity. It brings the viewer back to that childlike feel. Pink and purple are consistently stereotyped as a young girl's favorite colors. Most women can relate to this and feel comfort that there is a silent familiarity between all of us.

The artwork featured in this magazine contains faceless women. This is because no one ever truly knows who is suffering from self-esteem or an eating disorder, as the magazine touches on. The purple and pink flower petals guide the viewer through the zine and add a flare of femininity to embrace the user again.

The poster also includes the two primary colors used in the zine. The poster's main purpose is to catch the viewer's attention. The art style was chosen based on research on what aesthetics of 16-21-year-old women like and what draws them in. This zine was then created to encourage and provide the audience with hope if they were struggling through this scenario. It provides the viewer with an experience as they flip through the zine.
